How is Nikhil Kamath’s WTF Fund doing due diligence ? Two founders from my city Nashik selected one faked “Oxford” story, the other just sells cold-pressed oil like 30 others here.

This has been on my mind for a while and I wanted to share it here.

Recently, two founders from Nashik (my hometown) got selected by Nikhil Kamath’s WTF Fund. Sounds exciting at first but when you actually look into who they are, it raises serious questions.

Founder 1: The “Oxford” Claim

One of them has been loudly claiming everywhere in his startup’s Instagram bio, website, and personal profiles that his startup is “from Oxford.” But in reality, he didn’t study at Oxford University, he went to Oxford Brookes, which is totally different. He knows it, we know it but the way he markets himself, it’s clearly meant to mislead.
On top of that, he’s been faking visitor stats on his website and hyping up everything on social media to look more “fundable.”

Founder 2: Cold Pressed Oil = Startup ?

The second founder is actually his close friend. He runs a basic cold-pressed oil business using a ₹1 lakh machine. That’s it. There are dozens of people in Nashik already doing this, and honestly, many of them are doing a much better job. It’s a regular small business not a tech-driven, scalable startup.

So What’s Going On ?

What kind of due diligence is WTF Fund doing ? How are these people getting selected ? Is it all just about Instagram aesthetics now ? Fake credentials and a flashy reel ?

It’s really demotivating to see honest, hardworking founders building real products being ignored — while people who can spin stories and fake it on social media get ahead.

Is this the new model ? Just start something basic, fake some traction, and hope you get noticed ?

Would genuinely love to hear others’ thoughts. Maybe I’m missing something. But this doesn’t feel right.
