Third Wave Coffee Brews Up Rs 408 Crore in Major Late-Stage Funding
Bengaluru-based specialty coffee chain, Third Wave Coffee, has successfully secured a significant capital injection, marking a pivotal moment for the Indian premium beverage market. The company, which has rapidly transformed from a niche roastery into a household name across India’s urban centers, has raised Rs 408 crore (approximately $43 million) in a late-stage funding round. This infusion of capital underscores the growing investor appetite for high-quality, experiential retail brands in the country.
The funding round was spearheaded by WestBridge Capital, a seasoned investor known for backing high-growth consumer businesses. The round also saw participation from existing investor Creaegis, signaling strong confidence from current stakeholders in the brand’s long-term vision and operational scalability. This latest financial boost is expected to accelerate Third Wave Coffee’s expansion plans, allowing the company to deepen its footprint in existing markets and explore new territories across India.
Scaling the Specialty Coffee Experience
Since its inception, Third Wave Coffee has distinguished itself by focusing on the "third wave" movement—a philosophy that treats coffee as an artisanal foodstuff rather than a commodity. By offering a curated selection of specialty brews and a sophisticated cafe environment, the startup has successfully captured the attention of India’s burgeoning middle class and coffee connoisseurs alike. Beyond its physical cafe presence, the company has also built a robust retail arm, selling premium coffee products that cater to the growing home-brewing trend.
With this fresh capital, Third Wave Coffee is well-positioned to strengthen its supply chain, enhance its digital infrastructure, and continue its aggressive store rollout strategy. As the competition in the Indian cafe space intensifies, this funding provides the company with the necessary runway to maintain its premium positioning while scaling operations to meet the rising demand for high-quality coffee experiences across the nation.
For investors, this deal represents a strategic bet on the premiumization of the Indian food and beverage sector. As urban consumers increasingly prioritize quality and brand experience, Third Wave Coffee remains a frontrunner in defining the future of the Indian coffee culture.
